Question Answer
Please tell us where you are in the home buying process? What have you done to date?
view all answers to this question
I am currently still scouting for a quality home for which I can get a good deal in a good location. I have made a list of few prospective homes that I have seen till now and am interested in. Though I still have few months to keep on looking for better locations and so am in talks with several agents too.
Where have you searched? Online? In the newpaper classifieds? Somwhere else?
view all answers to this question
I have taken help from newspaper classifieds, professional agents, my own colleagues and also partly online. Some of the homes I am interested in are through indirect contacts too and are on sale by financial institutes as method of loan recovery. Online too I have made searches about pricings, locations and future.
If you've searched online, which websites have you used?
view all answers to this question
I have used the general websites related to property prices, their trends by searching from google and Yahoo. Then I have used websites like www.realtor.com, www.sfgov.org, real estate pages on yahoo!, realestate.com, redfin.com and some other local agent sites. I have also checked out forums for reviews by individual buyers or sellers like me to get a general outlook.
If you search online, please describe in detail how you search. What terms do you search on? Do you filter your search?
view all answers to this question
I searched online using terms like 'property+prices+california', 'buy+homes'. Also 'home for sale', 'buy home in san francisco', 'deals on homes'. These are some of the major searches I made and also searched on 'real estate agents', 'find you home online'.
What real estate websites have you heard of?
view all answers to this question
www.realtor.com, realestate.com, redfin.com, homegain.com, homefinder.com. I have also heard about Yahoo.com's real estate pages. Also the pages of local real estate agents and some banks.

Question Answer
Is the purpose of the site clear? What would you say the purpose of the site is?
view all answers to this question
It is a wonderful home searching site. It also has pretty neat articles on mortgage, green homes and I particularly liked the one on foreclosure properties. The extensive mortgage section can also be a huge advantage. And the photos of homes have been excellent. Can you resize the photos so that they are a bit larger up front? Also could you specifically categorize user photos like - front, back, patio, garden, surrounding, bathroom, living room and so on, which makes it easier to find and see.
What did you like and dislike about the site? Please be specific.
view all answers to this question
The basic design is simple yet effective which is what I like in particular. The sections on articles and mortgages is really impressive. However the search facility just seems bit odd or may be there are not many homes in the area. The map on the home page is bit small and would be advisable to just resize it to a larger size by a bit.
Is there anything that should be added to the site? Anything that isn't needed?
view all answers to this question
May be a page on current trends in detail as foreclosure related details are already there. One could possibly add more info about the local neighbourhood of the property in neighbourhood information page like people, attractions or places to hangout, nearby landmarks and gardens and so on. There is absolutely nothing which is out of place on the site.
What about the site did you find the most confusing? How would you make it clearer?
view all answers to this question
The neighbourhood info page I believed would give me description of the overall locales, but it was not so. Just add neighbourhood details as I said above. Also can you include some crime rate info, etc and hospitals? The pages on mortgage could have been made a bit simpler for a new customer, though it was fine for me personally.
Would you use the website over Realtor.com? Why or why not?
view all answers to this question
Depends only if the number of properties listed in different areas increases. Apart from the database in comparison to realtor.com, homefinder.com definitely has a wide choice of user articles and facilities. Moreover its relative simplicity would be an actual advantage. I may more likely use it along with sites like realtor.com and others to make sure I find the right property.
